How to correct payroll or contribution errors

If you've submitted incorrect payroll or pension contribution information, don't worry. In most cases, you can correct it.

What you need to do depends on whether your contribution file has been processed and whether the payment has been collected.

I spotted a mistake before the file was processed

If you've recently submitted your contribution file, contact us as soon as possible.

Phone: 020 8003 5908

Please include your employer ID and explain what needs to be corrected.

If your file was fast-tracked

If you contact us within 24 hours of submitting the file, we may still be able to cancel it before it's fully processed.

If it's been more than 24 hours, we can't make changes to a fast-tracked file. You'll need to correct the error in your next payroll.

If your file is waiting for assisted processing

We may be able to update the file before it's processed. Contact us as soon as possible so we can check.

I spotted a mistake after the payment was collected

If the Direct Debit has already been collected, you can usually correct the difference in your next payroll.

Update the employee's pension contribution in your next contribution file so the overall contributions are correct.

For example:

  • If you overpaid, reduce the contribution in your next submission

  • If you underpaid, increase the contribution in your next submission

Making the adjustment in your next payroll is usually the simplest way to keep your payroll and pension records aligned.

I forgot to include an employee

If an employee was missed from your contribution file, you can submit them separately.

Upload a manual contribution file containing only the missing employee through the Process contributions section of your Penfold employer dashboard.
