How long does it take to transfer my Penfold pension to a new provider?

We aim to make transfers as fast and smooth as possible. Many transfers are completed within a few weeks, but the exact timing depends on your new provider and the process they use.

  • Origo (electronic) transfers are usually completed within a few weeks, but can take up to 2 months in some cases

  • Non-Origo (manual) transfers typically take longer, and may take 3 months or more, depending on the provider

There are a few situations where transfers can take longer:

  • Recent contributions: if you've recently paid into your pension, we'll need to wait for all contributions (including tax relief) to be applied before transferring

  • Checks on your new provider: sometimes, we need to carry out additional due diligence, which depends on how quickly the receiving provider responds

  • Regulatory requirements: we're required to carry out checks to protect your pension from scams, which can extend timelines in some cases

While we always aim to complete transfers as quickly as possible, in more complex situations, the process can take up to 6 months.

If you're working to a specific deadline, we recommend allowing extra time and keeping in touch with both providers throughout the process.
